The house is built on the original site of Wilmount Castle which dominated the skyline on the east side of Cobh. The castle was a neo-gothic extravaganza, built by the Seymore Family in the mid-19th century. It featured two tall towers at each end of the building surmounted by 4 lions, reputedly cast by Landseer, and with an enormous eagle between them. On the western tower, Captain Seymour installed one of the earliest telephones in Ireland, connecting the castle with his shipping offices on Lynch’s Quay. The Eastern wing was usually occupied by Mr William Inman of the Inman Line on his visits to Ireland. A serious fire eventually caused the castle to fall into disrepair and it was knocked down in the early 1960's to be replaced by the current house.

Auctioneera is delighted to present Gladwin, situated in the charming town of Cobh, County Cork. This beautiful family home offers a spacious and contemporary living experience.

Location, location, location. This stunning four-bedroom property has it all. Situated at the end of a secluded cul-de-sac, it boasts truly spectacular views over Cork Harbour, Spike Island, and Roches Point.

Inside, we are greeted by a bright and spacious hallway that leads to the main living areas. All the ground floor rooms overlook a mature front garden, offering splendid views of the harbour. The interior design of the house is stylish with neutral tones and plenty of natural light flooding in through large windows. A feature of the ground floor is the solid oak parquet flooring in the living room, hallway, and family room. Adjacent to the hallway is a wood-panelled sunroom with a stone fireplace. The open-plan kitchen is fitted with quality appliances, ample storage space, and a casual dining area. The laundry room offers additional storage space for appliances.

Moving upstairs, there are four generously sized bedrooms and an office/study area. The spacious master bedroom is particularly impressive, with its built-in wardrobes and magnificent view. Two of the three other bedrooms also overlook the harbour, and all offer ample storage space. The main bathroom includes a jacuzzi bath with elegant fixtures and fittings. The enclosed shower in the second bathroom features both an electric and centrally heated pressure shower.

The outdoor area encompasses a mature walled-in garden and lawn with superb panoramic sea views wherever you look. This space is ideal for family fun or simply relaxing and enjoying the vista and passing ships.
